Woody's is not where you go for a low-key business lunch or a romantic dinner for two. It is, though, popular for its very relaxed ambience and its no-frills, fun approach to tasty barbecue, which draws a regular clientele ranging from suit-and-tie professionals to T-shirted students from nearby UC Santa Barbara. The Killer Chicken offerings include Buffalo wings that actually have meat on them and an oak-smoked half-chicken dinner served with baked potato or beans and limitless trips to the salad bar. For the hungry lunch crowd, we recommend one of the hearty burgers or the Smokehouse Stack sandwich, featuring a large heap of thinly sliced prime rib with bacon, Jack cheese, onion rings and barbecue sauce. We have been impressed, too, with the Santa Maria-style barbecue dinners, especially one that features a whole pound of sliced-to-order, always-juicy tri-tip. If you're in the mood for sharing, the Monster Combo is more than enough for two, featuring four kinds of ribs alongside chicken, sausage and tri-tip. Woody's is also one of Santa Barbara's most popular off-site caterers.
