Arts & Letters Café Description:
Just finding the Arts & Letters Café is part of its magic. To get there, you have to walk through Sullivan Goss, one of Santa Barbara's premier art galleries. The café features seating inside one gallery room, but we prefer the open terrace with tall trees, flowing fountains and ambient classical music. We also like the Mediterranean slant to the food here. The local black mussels on the appetizer menu are served in a lobster-and-white-wine broth. The salad lineup features a mixture of mushrooms simmered in port wine and served over baby arugula and Humboldt Fog goat cheese; and the warm lamb salad, with grilled tenderloin, roasted peppers and feta arrayed over baby spinach with a basil-mint dressing. Sandwiches are big by design, so bring your appetite; you can't go wrong with the smoked turkey with warm Brie on whole wheat. And for its freshness, we recommend the flash-grilled ahi served with crisp baby bok choy and soft fingerling potatoes.

Review :
This is an excellent restaurant in a very beautiful setting amidst magnificent Santa Barbara. Imagine eating in a courtyard surrounded by wonderful, fine paintings and beautiful plantings.
The menu, which changes every few weeks, is very unusual, full of imaginative, fresh ingredients with subtle flavors. The salads are pure perfection and the bread pudding desert, made with apples and currants, is to die for (without having 1000 calories). The service was excellent, and best of all the prices were very, very reasonable for the quality.
Needless to say, I highly recommend this sophisticated restaurant.
