Jill's Place Description:
There's a lot of history at Jill's Place. Formerly Shalhoob's, the site was one of Santa Barbara's top butcher shops and delis since the 1970s. So Jill Shalhoob grew up in the beef business and now runs a casual, home-style eatery dedicated to quality steaks, big portions and approachable prices. The Santa Barbara sirloin is probably her best seller, available in both eight- and 16-ounce cuts. The filet mignon, T-bone, New York and rib-eye have their followings, too. All steaks are well-seasoned with a secret family rub, and we especially like the topping options offered, from mushrooms to prawns to blue cheese. We also like the lamb T-bone, served in three four-ounce portions; the buttermilk fried chicken, served with garlic mashed potatoes and gravy; and the very tender pork baby-back ribs. Other options include salmon or halibut dishes and varied salads and sandwiches. You can't go wrong by ending your meal with bananas Shalhoob, their take on bananas Foster. Jill's Place is small and the dinner crowd packs it early, so reservations are a good idea.
