Bistro Luneta Description:
It is from an entirely unassuming kitchen that the staff at Bistro Luneta, one of the only full-service Filipino restaurants in the Bay Area, creates wonderfully complex, nuanced and sophisticated dishes. Start with seafood kinilaw, Filipino-style ceviche that features hunks of tender tuna, scallops and shrimp soaked in the juice of tropical dwarf lemons and coconut milk. The flavors are a tasty contrast of tart and silky. Adobo, a pork broth reduction and the signature sauce of Filipino cuisine, is typically prepared with either chicken or pork, but here it accompanies sea scallops topped with sliced portobello mushrooms. Fork-tender cod is baked and drizzled with a sweet miso-tomato reduction that complements the buttery flavors of the fish. The overall atmosphere is casual, but a warehouse-style ceiling decked out with a collage of brightly colored tiles keeps it from feeling boring. Desserts such as panna cotta flavored with pandan, a type of grass, are unusual and not to be missed.
