231 Ellsworth Description:
Managing Partner and Wine Director Richard Milkovich (Gordon Biersch, The Plumed Horse Restaurant) and Partner/Maitre d' James Callahan (California Café, The Plumed Horse, Sent Sovi) have partnered with Chef William Collier. Executive Chef William Collier, who has refined his skills in some of America's top restaurants, has developed a menu of innovative, globally-inspired contemporary American Cuisine.
An entrance lounge area shows off a day cellar full of wine and a comfortable cherry wood bar, perfect for after-work or late-night indulgences in the well-chosen wine list or signature cocktails. But ending your trip at the bar would be a travesty. The well-executed seasonal menu offers creatively conceived dishes à la carte, in a three-course, prix-fixe menu or in five- and seven-course tasting menus with a wine pairing option. A Caesar salad knock-off presents crisp baby Romaine leaves cloaked in a creamy Parmesan vinaigrette bright with vivid Meyer lemon flavor, and a wild mushroom tart topped with delicate greens and accompanied by warm roasted apricots is an earthier, but equally delicious, choice. Scallops arrive glistening with pan-seared tops and with spiced potatoes and golden chanterelles in a corn vinaigrette. Leave time to peruse the dessert and after-dinner wine list. The chocolate fondant cake offers a nice balance with its deep caramel sauce and a sprinkling of fleur de sel. The supper club feel of the handsome dining room, with its midnight-blue, barrel-shaped ceiling and muted earth tones, is complete when the occasional jazz band injects an urban soundtrack into this already very cosmopolitan restaurant.
