Clearman's North Woods Inn Description:
This oversized lumberjack-themed restaurant anchors a complex called Clearman's Village, which also includes two other restaurants (the more formal Steak 'N Stein Inn and The Galley, a very informal eatery) as well as old-fashioned crafts shops and even a gun store. The whole place resembles a mountain lodge and its sprawling roof is covered---quite effectively, we might add---with a heavy blanket of synthetic snow. The management is proud to proclaim that the huge sign out front was cut from a massive thousand-year-old redwood tree. The restaurant's cheese bread---you can find the proprietary spread in many supermarkets---is legendary (and awfully good, despite being a bit soggy), salads are plentiful, and most folks go for the steaks, which are sizeable and respectable. Also located at 540 N. Azusa Ave., Covina, 626-331-7444; and 14305 Firestone Blvd., La Mirada, 714-994-4590.

Review :
Used to be great, what happened? Looks like the economy is taking its toll. Cheese bread was rock hard. Went for lunch, about 4 people in the whole place. Sharing food is frowned upon, waitress kept stalking us to make sure we weren't sharing my "endless" salad and bread. By endless I mean the one serving I had of it. When I asked for extra bread, waitress brought one slice and was wrned that I couldn't take it to go. Food was sub-par. Had beef dip, husband had burger. For our $36.00 lunch, we left very dissatisfied. My suggestion: make your own red cabbage salad (recipes are posted all over the net) and get the cheese spread from the grocery store and make your own Northwoods at home. You'll save alot of $ and be satisfied with your portions!"
