Iva Lee's Description:
Southern dinner house with metal ceilings, burgundy walls and gold drapes. Full bar. The menu includes dishes such as roasted corn and crab bisque, New Orleans-style barbecued shrimp, grilled rib-eye with tabasco onions over bacon, and cheddar mashed potatoes. Live blues every Thursday and Friday from 7pm-10pm.
Owners Lisa and Eric Wagoner are area natives who have created a charming place to hang out in downtown San Clemente. The menu by chef Christopher Starr puts a spin on Southern and Creole specialties. Start with the bourbon-infused French onion soup or the squash soup with fried sage. Entrées are just as innovative like the grilled pork chop with sugar pecan glaze, a braised short rib with black-eyed peas and grilled salmon with sherry-glazed sweet potato gnocchi. Mint juleps and other specialty drinks are both potent. The three-course prix-fixe is the way to go if you want to save a few bucks but still satisfy yourself. The wine list here is extensive with mostly topnotch California varietals.
