Duane's Prime Steaks & Seafood Description:
Duane Roberts deserves to have this restaurant named after him. After all, he came to the rescue of the Mission Inn (where the spot is located) about ten years ago saving it from probable destruction. This would have been a sad state of affairs since the block-long hotel (which Roberts restored to its original 1876 grandeur) has since been named a National Historic Landmark. And with its domes, bell towers, clock towers and fountains, it deserved the recognition. But even if it weren't in such a splendid setting, Duane's Prime Steak & Seafood would shine. There is arguably no more appropriate setting for an elegant dinner in the Riverside area than this darkly romantic restaurant. Steaks include cuts of Prime beef---New York, filet mignon and rib-eye, simply, but perfectly charbroiled to order. Fish selections vary with seasonal availability, but might include fresh grilled halibut with crab meat on a bed of spinach. Also noteworthy: an impressive shrimp cocktail (large shrimp in a distinctively piquant cocktail sauce) appetizer and side orders of perfectly spiced creamed spinach or corn and garlic potatoes. To boot, the wine list is exceptional and service is professional and accommodating.
