Trio Description:
We're a wine bar, say the folks at Trio, not a restaurant, not a wine retail outlet. The bar sports 14-foot ceilings and occupies a couple of rooms in a home built for Truckee lumber baron W.H. Kruger. The wine list offers three- and six-ounce pours of mainly California wines, and small plates like carpaccio, hummus and a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich are also served. A monumental, 1840s mahogany back bar dominates the main room, its flanks deeply carved with images of fruit, lion heads and acanthus leaves. The work of local artists (some of it quite good) garnishes the bar, and in the evenings, candles flicker as jazz musicians play.
