Feast Bistro Description:
Chef Susan Coulter worked at several Ojai restaurants before opening her own. Her intention was to fill the gap between fine dining and the town's myriad simple eateries. Indeed, prices at Feast Bistro are lower than what you'd find at places with a comparable menu. Portions, however, are small, and the restaurant lacks the refinement of a fine dining establishment. Dishes such as roasted duck breast over vegetable fried rice benefit from fresh herbs and other locally grown ingredients. A dollop of garlic and herb butter atop an eight-ounce flat-iron steak, on the other hand, detracts from the flavor of the meat. The menu also features Greek salad, Jamaican jerk chicken and straightforward linguine bolognese, which makes you think perhaps "New American" isn't the restaurant's appropriate designation. An open kitchen dominates an already small main room. If available, opt for a table on the back patio overlooking Ojai's Arcade Plaza, a pleasant spot, particularly for lunch.
