Bungalow 44 Description:
This venture from the owners of Buckeye Roadhouse attempts to serve the same quality down-home comfort cuisine, and even has the same executive chef, but the results are decidedly mixed and for the most part mediocre. Roasted halibut cheeks are dry and over-seasoned with achiote paste, while the handmade Gorgonzola gnocchi swim in overly rich sauce. An enormous tower of buttermilk onion rings are more like onion strings, but are hot and crisp and one of the better deals on the menu. Cornflake-crusted fried chicken arrives nearly blackened with even the drumstick dry. However, the Kobe beef burger with truffled french fries is one of Marin's most indulgent. Service is friendly but can be spotty. The setting is comfortable, especially the al fresco fireplace room. It's a good place to catch an after-work drink and some appetizers. Prices are a tad high even for Marin County dining.
