Zin Restaurant & Wine Bar Description:
Zin is a welcome haven for hearty, comfy American fare that, not coincidentally, seems to pair well with Zinfandel. Just off the main square in Healdsburg, the dining room, with concrete floors, an open, beamed ceiling and cork table tops makes industrial seem warm and homey. The cuisine plays up bold, soul-satisfying flavors. You'd guess the addictive beer-battered green beans with mango salsa come in place of bread since they're on most every table in the joint. Other starters include a grilled peach salad with goat cheese or seared calamari with apple wood bacon and butterbeans. Move on to enticing mains such as smoky andouille sausage and a cornbread stuffed pork chop with applesauce, and bacon-wrapped salmon on grits with fried green tomatoes and roasted tomato broth. There's also a nightly blue plate special, perhaps pot roast, chicken 'n' dumplings or gumbo. The chef-owner duo, sons of Central Valley farmers, sources accompaniments from their own organic garden when possible---a smiling tomato icon punctuates such menu items.
