Yang Chow Description:
This moderately priced family style Chinese restaurant is always packed. Large portions, friendly service, Mandarin and Szechwan dishes. The atmosphere is casual and the room is big, light and open. (The Pasadena and Chinatown locations are a bit more upscale at least up to the tablecloths).
The Yun family founded the Chinatown branch of Yang Chow in 1977, with five brothers naming the establishment for their Chinese birth city. This restaurant has proven to be a Valley favorite. It's a handsome place with reasonable prices, friendly service and a long menu of Mandarin and Szechuan dishes that will keep your interest. Favorites include the signature slippery shrimp (lightly battered, possessing both sweetness and heat), lamb with scallions, and Szechuan wontons in a zippy aromatic broth. Other interesting options include the sizzling platter of scallops, fish filet with Chinese wine sauce and Chinese spaghetti with hoisin sauce. Also located at 819 N.
