If you stick with owner Julia Avila's Salvadoran antojitos (small bites), you may never reach the main courses. Try the pupusas served with spicy pickled cabbage and, on request, loroco (El Salvador's subtly flavored herblike flower). For a change of pupusa pace, ask for a pupusa de harina de arroz made with rice flour. We also like the pork or chicken tamals, pastelitos, Salvadoran enchiladas and chiles rellenos. Want a hearty, inexpensive meal? The pollo encebollado bears an impressive quantity of moist chicken topped with onions and peppers, and it costs well under $10.
