Tarpy's Roadhouse Description:
Not your typical barrelhouse, juke joint or honky tonk. Rather, an historical and handsomely-restored stone ranch house---a convivial setting to contemplate the lengthy menu selections. In typical roadhouse fashion, portions are generous---fuel for the road. Rev up on the lobster, shrimp and mango salad with crème fraîche and red flying fish caviar. At dinner, a hearty classic meatloaf with Marsala-mushroom gravy is a little country and you'll get a little rock 'n' roll if you order the colossal achiote prawns over asparagus and butternut squash risotto. Chef Michael Kimmel likes his wood-burning grill to cook up a variety of game dishes---boar is sometimes on the specials menu. We like the old-fashioned take on desserts: from olallieberry pie and devil's food cake to a rich bread pudding. Weekday specials make everyday dining affordable with dishes such as Black Angus sirloin steak, chili crusted chicken breast and salmon with tomato-cucumber relish.
