There are trendier and pricier Thai restaurants on the eastern stretch of Ventura Boulevard, but this pleasant spot with a large repertoire and loyal clientele is worth seeking out. Hot soups, good satays, and fiery beef salad (similar to a larb) are all worthwhile starters. An array of noodle dishes is generally first-rate. We recommend Northern-style kao soi with egg noodle soup, crispy noodles and crunchy onion. Sompun also produces curries like pud pirod, a fiery brew of coconut milk, mint leaves and green chilies, floating with strips of eggplant and bamboo shoots. Interesting seafood dishes keep tables of locals happy, along with some of the friendliest service you'll encounter anywhere in the Valley.
