Artisan Description:
Contemporary American food in a mid sized restaurant in downtown Paso Robles. Artisan has a large selection of local wines and beers by the glass. The restaurant has a clean contemporary look. Open daily for lunch and dinner. Entrees are expensive for the area, generally in the high twenties each. Since it's Paso Robles, the dress is a bit more casual overall.
A separate dining room is available for winemaker dinners and private parties.
With its minimalist but warm décor, this sleek eatery has a big city feel. Brothers Michael and Chris ("Chef Koby") Kobayashi, along with Chris's wife Shandi, have made Artisan a destination in the Paso Robles wine country. Chef Koby's inspirations are rooted in sustainable and organic farmers and ranchers, and he changes the seasonal menu frequently. We suggest the smoked Gouda and porter fondue with andouille sausage, as well as the simple burger and flatiron steak made with local grass-fed beef, but other hits have included a lentil soup with roasted pork and pancetta, ricotta gnocchi with meatballs and mushrooms, and a hearty Cuban pork sandwich that's accented with house-made bread and butter pickles. The wine list features prized Central Coast selections along with gems from other regions, and the beer options include drafts such as Anchor Steam and Chimay White plus a host of bottled craft labels. This is also one place you shouldn't skip desserts---choose from an artisan cheese plate or homemade treats like watermelon sorbet, a snickerdoodle cookie, or a seasonal pumpkin cheesecake with cinnamon crème fraîche.
