Splashes Description:
Splashes is a restaurant inside the famous Surf and Sand Resort in Laguna Beach. Hotel is on the beach.
Splashes is perhaps OC's most romantic on-the-beach restaurant, with foamy white waves pounding the shore just feet away from your table. A renovation has produced a modern yet inviting space with wood floors, a glass chandelier, dark wicker chairs and a long banquette near the back. Chef Lewis Butler has revamped the menu with more contemporary offerings using more local and seasonal ingredients. Some start by lounging with a specialty martini in the adjacent bar, which has a striking view of the Pacific. Then, head to the romantic main dining room for Butler's lobster bisque with tangerine-lobster aïoli or the Hawaiian ahi trio tasting with its topnotch tuna tartare and avocado mousse. The main courses are all rather good, especially the delicate Catalina sea bass with butternut squash purée and flavorful ginger-grapefruit sauce. The tender, smoky beef tenderloin is a favorite with its truffle Parmesan gnocchi and braised cipollini onions. You can't go wrong with the house-made sorbets for dessert. The wine list here is also impressive, with more than 150 labels, mostly from California and France.
