Giovanni's Trattoria Description:
If the New Jersey restaurant featured in the movie "Big Night" had a Culver City counterpart, this could be it. Start with the basic bruschetta or the grilled eggplant rolled around ricotta cheese, pine nuts and herbs. Pastas are best topped by spicy arrabbiata with garlic or the savory chicken-and-turkey ragù. There are serviceable thin-crust pizzas and calzones---a hearty rare-for-Los Angeles specialty that's filled with mozzarella, mushrooms, sausage and herbs, and topped with marinara sauce. Reasonably priced entrées include the herb-seasoned grilled salmon filet and grilled chicken sausages with white beans and arrabbiata sauce. For dessert, order the pear tart if it's available.
