Eva's Caribbean Kitchen Description:
A small Caribbean restaurant in the Southern end of Laguna Beach. The atmosphere is friendly, cozy and colorful.
This tiny restaurant, located along Pacific Coast Highway in South Laguna near Victoria Beach, is the passion of chef and proprietor Eva Madray. The interior is rather funky with its lime green walls hung with masks, bright orange ceiling and intimate patio. But most come here for Madray's down-home West Indies cuisine rather than the kitschy atmosphere. So, if you're in the mood for an authentic Caribbean meal, this is one of the few spots in OC for such delicacies as conch fritters, crab and sweet corn cakes and jerk-seasoned dishes. The spicy main dishes such as the Creole-stewed fish, curry prawns and blackened catfish aren't meant for sensitive stomachs. In fact, the food is meant to make you sweat and reach for your beer glass. Or, stick to the long libation list, which includes such island-style specialties as rum punch or a pink punani (guava juice with rum). Finish your meal with Key lime pie or New York-style cheesecake flavored with mango.
