With one of the best views of Morro Rock and the bay, Dorn's Original Breakers Café definitely has location, location, location, which makes it a popular tourist spot, but locals know Dorn's also delivers a good hearty meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant dates back to 1942 and it seems like a lot of the menu items haven't changed much since, but why change something that works? Start the morning off with decadent linguiça (Portuguese sausage) and eggs, the fresh buttermilk pancakes, or a weekend brunch serving of eggs Sardou. Lunch includes classics like crab Louie and tuna salad, plus all the typical fried fish dishes you'd expect at a seaside restaurant; we like the straightforward fish sandwich on ciabatta, albeit blackened and with rice pilaf instead of fries. Dorn's prides itself on its fresh seafood dinners, and some of the standouts are among the most retro---the shrimp scampi and the sole Florentine. The hot sourdough bread served at lunch and dinner is irresistible, and the chunky clam chowder is also a winner.
