Come On In Description:
This hub for La Jollans draws a real crowd in the morning and lunch hours, but the Euro Bistro dinner is gaining popularity. For breakfast we like to treat ourselves with cornmeal pancakes topped with bananas and strawberries; with thick bacon and warm maple syrup on days we feel especially decadent. We adore the chicken salad on sourdough---tart green apples and pecans replace the requisite celery here; pair it with the mixed greens (with sugar snap peas, red pepper and our favorite poppy seed dressing anywhere) and a cup of black bean chili. This simple, yet dependable lunchtime fare is the reason behind Come On In!'s following. For dinner, you can't go wrong with the cuori di carciofi---baby artichoke hearts broiled in virgin olive oil, fresh mint and garlic. Move on to the many Italian (via California) main courses. We enjoyed the evening's specials: shrimp and asparagus risotto and seafood crêpes. The fiesta di mare combines tiger shrimp, black mussels, clams and salmon in saffron broth; all this is tossed with fresh tomatoes and served over linguine. Or go straight for the gusto and have a petit filet mignon topped with melted Gorgonzola, crispy bacon and red wine glaze. Longtime baker Judy Eagan's pastry selections are as delicious as they are varied. Owner Albert Sifuentes has worked his way up the ranks at Come On In! and has a certain following of his own in town. His easy-going personality is a great compliment to this tiny gem---we couldn't think of a more hard-earned success.
