California Pizza Kitchen Description:
Authentic California-style cuisine at all CPK locations. The menu at each restaurant will feature all of the popular favorites along with the newest menu additions including a Four Seasons Pizza with imported Italian tomatoes, oven-roasted artichoke hearts, salami, fresh mushrooms, mild onions, Mozzarella and fresh Mozzarella cheeses topped with fresh herbs and Parmesan cheese; Roasted Artichoke and Spinach Pizza, inspired by CPK's popular Spinach Artichoke Dip, with a blend of oven-roasted artichoke hearts, sautéed spinach and garlic, Fontina, Mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses and a spinach artichoke sauce; Baby Clam Linguini featuring linguini fini and baby clams with garlic, fresh Italian parsley, Parmesan cheese, white wine and red pepper flakes tossed in either a light lemon cream sauce or imported Italian tomatoes and fresh basil; Italian Deli Sandwich, a combination of spicy Capicola ham, salami and pepperoni topped with Mozzarella and Fontina cheeses, basil and shredded lettuce tossed in a herb-mustard Parmesan vinaigrette; Turkey Stack Sandwich oven-roasted turkey breast, sliced fresh Roma tomatoes, mayonnaise, shredded lettuce and Grey Poupon Dijon honey mustard; and Butter Cake, CPK's newest dessert, an oven-baked butter cake served with fresh whipped cream.
While initially CPK was all the rage with its list of two dozen crispy-thin pizzas, pastas and big salads, lately we have been disappointed with the fare. The lettuce in our Cobb salad wasn't fresh, the asparagus soup bland, and artichoke salad overly chewy. Safe bets include the standard pizzas, but we do like some of the inventive multi-cultural versions like wild mushroom, mango tandoori chicken, and B.L.T.---complete with mayonnaise. Other favorites are the roasted garlic chicken, with its garlic-shallot butter, and the barbecued chicken, the most popular of the pizzas. You can also design your own. If you can tear yourself away from the pies, try one of the pastas; we recommend the Thai linguine with spicy peanut-ginger sauce. Another Asian option, the crisp Chinese chicken salad, is satisfying. Salad portions are large, so keep in mind that you can get a half-order. Soups, appetizers and sandwiches made with good hearth-baked focaccia are also available, and filling desserts like sundaes please the kids.
