Cafe Pierre Description:
This Manhattan Beach restaurant's origin dates back to the 1960s when owner Guy Gabriele first opened Crêpière, which later became the more easily pronounced Café Pierre. The main dining room décor features a dome painted in sky-blue tones that contrasts with the red tablecloths and ceiling in the bar area. Gabriele's father was a French charcutier who married an Italian cook, so he is pleased to offer dishes inspired by both of his parents. Much of the charcuterie is prepared in-house, including the jars of duck rilettes and pigs' trotters. Executive chef Remi Lauvand, last seen at Citrus at Social, has revamped the menu. Start with crisp pork belly with parsnip purée and jalapeno sauce or red and yellow beets accompanied by goat cheese and pickled red onions before enjoying hearty dishes such as 70-hour beef short ribs with cipollini onions, spinach and red wine sauce or wild boar ragù with portobello mushrooms and pappardelle pasta. Baba au rhum with slow poached pineapple or the apple tart will provide a sweet ending to your meal. A $35 three-course prix-fixe menu featuring market-inspired dishes is also available. A great wine will likely be found within the rather interesting choices that include some lesser known wines from various origins throughout the world.
