Brent's Deli Description:
Brent's occupies a sprawling space in one of those nondescript Valley strip centers. Inside, brick walls surround green leatherette booths, a standard deli counter and a rotating dessert display showcasing the restaurant's signature foot-high chocolate and carrot layer cakes. There's no better way to judge a kosher-style deli than its matzoh ball soup, and Brent's is first-rate, although the softball-size matzoh balls could use more assertive seasoning. We are particularly fond of the pastrami sandwiches here, just spicy enough to be balanced by a slather of Russian dressing on a topnotch rye with a crunchy, chewy crust. The menu is massive, featuring all kinds of breakfast items, specialty sandwiches stacked so high nobody could possibly eat one without deconstruction, smoked fish platters, various Reubens, huge salads, and a solid chopped liver plate. Complete dinners range from meatloaf to liver and onions to a lean brisket. One more plus---unlike some delis, the waitresses are generally delightful.
