Now owned by restaurateurs Michael and Bill Kefalas (Barney's Ltd. in Old Pasadena), this Sierra Madre landmark delights a loyal clientele of locals with an enormous menu that ranges from comfort food classics to Spanish paella. The breakfasts---items like roast beef hash with eggs, a tomato-asparagus-bacon omelet smothered in hollandaise, or raspberry-chocolate pancakes---are consistently satisfying, and lunches revolve around big sandwiches ranging from a classic Reuben to a Hawaiian-inspired creation stuffed with teriyaki-glazed mahi mahi. The mac 'n' cheese, prepared with cheddar and Fontina, can be enhanced with honey-cured, apple wood-smoked bacon, while chicken potpie is covered in delicate puff pastry.
