Zinc Bar Description:
Zinc Bar is the sleek lobby bar and lounge of Shade Hotel, cornerstone of the redeveloped Metlox Bakeries complex. Designed with opaque blue glass, dark wood and flame-filled glass cylinders, it conjures a hip, stylish setting. The bar offers 40 wines by the glass, but it's even better to start with a cocktail like Shade Lemonade, which combines black cherry vodka, fresh lemonade and a sinker of raspberry liquor. Chef John Enright prepares an ambitious menu of small plates, all beautifully presented but with mixed success. Highlights include juicy lamb chops with stone-ground mustard demi-glaze and a trio of grilled cheese sandwiches---plain, prosciutto and tomato---served with a hearty cup of tomato soup. Two cones each of yellowtail and ahi tartare arrive in a metal Z-shaped holder; but, unfortunately, the flavor doesn't match the appearance. For dessert, expect strawberry shortcake and chocolate cupcakes, each with vanilla ice cream.
