El Criollo serves respectable ropa vieja (shredded beef in light tomato sauce with onions and peppers), bacalao (dried, salted codfish), beef tongue in Creole sauce and roast chicken in garlic and lemon sauce. Whatever you order, expect fried plantains, white rice and black beans, the holy trinity of Cuban cuisine. Dessert is uneventful, so skip the guava shells with cream cheese in favor of a cup of Cuban coffee, sweet from copious amounts of sugar.
