Manzanita Description:
Traci Des Jardins swept into the Truckee hills with her impressive résumé and recipes to open Manzanita in The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe. As at her revered San Francisco restaurant Jardinière, fresh and seasonal ingredients are the stars of the menu. Simple and comforting dinner entrées such as tender, red-wine-braised short ribs burst with flavor. Another favorite is the warm bread salad studded with baby artichokes and Crescenza cheese triangles. Sustainably raised seafood and Five Dot Ranch beef figure prominently on the menu. Given the mountain setting, an appropriate ending to the meal is the rich s'mores dessert (or at least a few forkfuls) comprised of warm chocolate lava cake, marshmallow ice cream and a house-made graham cracker tuile, or try the crème fraîche panna cotta with citrus salad, jícama and mint. While diners will not spy Des Jardins in the open kitchen most evenings, they will see chef de cuisine Reylon Agustin, a talented Jardinière transplant. Part of Manzanita's appeal is its splashy interior design, hip bar and lounge, and dazzling Northstar Ski Resort mountain views, especially from the large outdoor patio, weather permitting.
