The Grove Artisan Kitchen Description:
The lovely, lavishly refurbished Miramonte Resort & Spa has included the hotel restaurant in its ambitious upgrades, creating a stand-alone dining room out of what used to resemble an upscale coffee shop. Executive chef Robert Nyerick sets a high standard for the kitchen; he has created a menu that is simple but sophisticated, and it should make this an attractive, affordable dining destination for locals as well as desert visitors. The ahi tartare with avocado, preserved lemons and a touch of chili oil to bring heat is a particularly piquant appetizer. The Kurobuta pork tenderloin saltimbocca with herb polenta has an earthy solidity. Also good is the salmon "pot-au-feu," enhanced with a preserved lemon reduction, which should tempt more capricious appetites. The menu's vaguely Mediterranean theme keeps the selection of dishes interesting but never intimidating; Nyerick's increasing emphasis on using local ingredients ensures that his menu shifts seasonally and often.
