Mission Lakes Country Club Restaurant Description:
Mealtime for visitors to Desert Hot Springs used to mean opting for either a decent cheap steak and mediocre Italian food at the local Italian steakhouse or choosing a neighborhood ethnic joint. Short of a drive into Palm Springs, there was nowhere to go for a good white tablecloth meal. Mission Lakes Country Club and executive chef Becky Hill now provide a local option for such visitors. The food is country club cuisine, as chef Hill would be the first to point out, so it's not cutting-edge gourmet. But Hill's background---she was sous chef at two of the valley's best restaurants, Citron and Beefsteak---has ensured that the safe menu comes as close to haute cuisine as the clientele will allow. The menu obeys the country club tradition of themed nights: a prime rib night, an Asian night, a pasta night, but Hill follows the seasons and she'll add an unfamiliar dish to the line-up. The view from the dining room is striking; the restaurant gazes out over the desert, across downtown Palm Springs, and out to the San Jacinto mountains.
