Sushi Roku Description:
This is the third, but certainly not the last, edition of this trendy chain of Japanese eateries that boast the kind of imaginative fare that was for years reserved only for Beverly Hills' celebrated Matsuhisa. But this restaurant---filled with polished stone, rich woods, bamboo and water features---offers a cutting-edge menu that is equal to its stylish environment and cool clientele. The ultra-fresh and deftly prepared traditional sushi reliably satisfies, but be sure to sample some of the more innovative dishes as well. Fried calamari is served with a raspberry dressing, black cod is enhanced with sweet miso, and broiled Chilean sea bass is complemented with a terrific tangy yuzu-butter sauce. Lobster and Japanese mushrooms give new meaning to spring rolls, and an aesthetic monkfish pâté is wrapped with salmon and topped with caviar. People who insist they can't find anything to eat anywhere near a sushi bar will be overwhelmed with intriguing possibilities---even carnivores can find filet mignon in Dijon-soy sauce---at this sure-fire Pasadena favorite.
