Manhattan Supper Club Description:
Manhattan Steak & Seafood changed its name slightly, along with its ownership and its chef. Fortunately, the classic, yet sumptuous décor remains the same. The two main dining rooms are tiny and intimate; other seating options include the sunny Window Room or the stone-covered Cellar Room. Chef Louie Moya has kept the refined comfort food menu, a good mélange of French and California styles with a smattering of Italian favorites. Some will be happy to hear the lunch menu still includes the Manhattan beef dip with its fall-apart braised short ribs, sweet caramelized onions, tangy Swiss cheese and pungent horseradish cream. At dinner, start with a specialty cocktail like the refreshing pomegranate mojito, which comes in an oversize martini glass with fresh mint. For starters, try the slightly sweet French onion soup, earthy sautéed mushrooms or the palate-opening beet salad. Main courses we enjoy are the succulent sautéed tiger prawns with linguine, the tender Kobe beef filet mignon and the seared duck breast, which comes with au gratin potatoes, roasted baby beets and a tangy raspberry gastrique. The wine list is mostly comprised of French and California producers along with some well-chosen by-the-glass selections.
