New York Grill Description:
New York Grill lies in the shadows of a tangled freeway interchange, adjacent to a massive suburban outlet center---a location that is the absolute antithesis of midtown Manhattan. But the restaurant does its best to provide the flavor of the Big Apple, both on the menu and in the dining room, which is reminiscent of a traditional steakhouse with some contemporary accents. Paintings of the Manhattan skyline line pumpkin walls, while patrons at candlelit white-linened tables enjoy music wafting from an adjoining lounge that features some of the best jazz in the Inland Empire. At lunch, you can choose between a Reuben and Coney Island hot dog, but at dinner Prime beef takes center stage. Starters include classics like oysters Rockefeller, a wedge---in truth, a full half-head---of iceberg lettuce with crumbled Maytag blue cheese, bacon bits, tomatoes and red onions, and an excellent, velvety lobster bisque. Entrées include a filet wrapped with applewood-smoked bacon and topped with blue cheese, and a good blackened steak. There's also rack of lamb, garlic-roasted chicken and the obligatory lobster tail. More interesting specialties---executed with mixed results---include grilled shrimp and scallops in a ginger-citrus sauce and almond-crusted mahi mahi with an apricot chutney sauce. For dessert, what else but New York cheesecake?
