The Pines Description:
You have to really be looking for The Pines, the upscale steakhouse well hidden on the second floor of the cavernous San Manuel casino. Despite the relatively high prices---a porterhouse tops the $40 mark and other steaks are solidly in the thirties---your money will last longer and be better spent here than at the card tables or endless rows of slot machines. The restaurant, which converts into a nightclub after the staid dinner guests depart, has the flavor of a glitzy Vegas lounge, anchored by a brightly illuminated circular bar. The Prime steaks, however, rival those at highly regarded steakhouses back in the real world, and starters include killer onion rings with smoky jalapeño ranch dipping sauce, oysters served with an inventive saké-yuzu granita, and tempura asparagus with chile-spiked aïoli. All are more than respectable, often presented with unexpectedly sophisticated touches.
