Enoteca Drago Description:
Chef Celestino Drago's neighborhood restaurant, wine bar and pizzeria. Serves enoteca (small plates), thin crust pizzas, assorted salumi and cheeses, as well as traditional lunch and dinner menus.
Enoteca is a warm, inviting space where the rhythm is driven by the 50 Italian wines available by the glass or by the taste. Much of the clientele looks to have dropped in fresh from the high-style Umberto salon next door. But the influence of chef-proprietor Celestino Drago, a legend on the L.A. dining scene, reins the emphasis in so that it falls on the cuisine, not on the scene. Although the restaurant serves three meals every day, (and you'll be hard pressed to find a finer omelet on the entire Westside), it is the Enoteca menu where the restaurant's concept shines. Two pages of small plates are designed for guests who love to linger and nibble many morsels over a glass or bottle of wine. Outstanding are the olives, stuffed with seasoned veal then lightly fried. Other signatures include crispy fried Parmesan, a giant scallop served over artichokes and morel mushroom chunks, and a cheese pizza stuffed with black truffles. The enoteca menu is offered all day, along with regular lunch items like sandwiches, salads and a few larger entrées. Dinner represents a tempting array of pastas, as only Drago could create. The signature dish features mini mushroom-stuffed ravioli in a foie gras and black truffle sauce. Though saving room can be difficult, the desserts are worth a trip all on their own. After all, how can you go wrong with molten chocolate cake topped by ribbons of caramel and a melting scoop of ice cream?
