Rani Indian Bistro Description:
Offers both northern and southern Indian cuisine, with an emphasis on Hyderabadi cooking.
This location was formerly occupied by Bombay Bistro, which was run by the same owners. They also operate several other Indian restaurants in the Boston area, including Bhindi Bazaar (Boston), Rangoli (Allston), and Tanjore (Cambridge).
Though you can get Westernized faves like tikka masala and saag paneer, the kitchen at Rani Indian Bistro reflects regional variations as well. Hyderabadi specialties in particular crop up, combining intense flavors like tamarind, curry leaf and cashew. More than a half-dozen styles of bread are available (including date-and-ginger kulcha)---a good thing, since dishes like black-pepper chicken and okra in mustard sauce need cushioning (rose-scented lassi also soothes). A selection of nashta is another signature; among them, spicy chicken dumplings and chaat with paneer and corn evoke Indian tapas. Other spruce touches include an eight-seat bar and an elegant tea selection.
