Eating out on Cape Cod was once a matter of choosing this over that dockside clam shack. But these days the Cape is a culinary hotbed, in which Chillingsworth sowed the seeds. Set in a sprawling 300-year-old estate spread over six acres, it remains a major gourmet destination. The main dining room displays a fine antique charm to contrast the modern, bright bistro and bar; sumptuous French and Contemporary cuisine comprises the seven-course prix-fixe menu of the former, while a lighter Mediterranean influence pervades the latter's à la carte menu. Think lobster cream soup with fried basil and seared salmon with tomato-pea fondue and chive butter sauce in the main dining room. And though Sunday brunch prices are more moderate, the menu is no less lush (scrambled eggs with black truffles and white truffle oil says it all).
