Troquet Description:
The last four digits of the phone number spell out "WINE" which tells a lot about this restaurant. Run by the former owners of Uva, a Brighton bistro famous for its low markups on quality wines, Troquet offers a more extensive wine list, with prices still well below the restaurant average.
Troquet offers classic French fare in the Theatre District.
Troquet is an ultra-polished, self-styled "food and wine boutique" occupying two stories in the Theater District. Wines by the glass come in two- or four-ounce pours for sippers to mix and match; due to its emphasis on hard-to-find vintages in limited production, the selection by the bottle changes nightly. The menu is designed to make pairings a snap, whether the dish is the intensely rich short rib cannelloni with smoked bacon in a Parmesan broth or the signature roast suckling pig with braised red cabbage. The lamb platter is sinfully succulent and even the butter is scooped out tableside from a wooden bucket. The cheese cart is a cream-of-the-crop treat. Despite its lovely view of Boston Common, we find the dining room a bit too hard-edged for total comfort---but we could lounge around the bar all night. Downstairs, Le Patissier doles out sugar treats and cheeses---try the $24 prix-fixe, three-course sweets tasting.
