LTK Bar and Kitchen Description:
While Legal Sea Foods CEO Roger Berkowitz has long been known as a boardroom visionary, his innovations have generally contributed toward the perfection of a mainstream dining experience. Now, with this spinoff---the initials LTK stand for "Legal Test Kitchen"---Berkowitz is taking a cutting-edge tack. Located on a section of the waterfront that is itself just beginning to emerge as the Seaport District, this casual eatery runs on a platform of high-tech gadgetry, from plasma-screen menus to tabletop iPod docks and WiFi access. Meanwhile, aside from an emphasis on seafood and a few trademark dishes, the fare has less in common with that of its parent than that of some trendy lounge. Small plates and entrées alike are separated into categories such as "simmer," "refresh" and "comfort" (which operate as synonyms for "soup", "salads" and "sandwiches," etc.)---some of which are truly distinctive, such as the skillet-roasted cheese with chickpeas and garlic croutons, or the Asian-style chicken and shrimp omelet. Unfortunately, amidst all the glitz and buzz of their surroundings, many others have no room to shine on their own. We plan to stick with cocktails and nibbles for awhile, until the test kitchen can pass with flying colors.
