King Fung Garden Description:
Tiny Chinatown spot known for homemade noodles and dumplings, as well as Peking duck (24-hour advance notice required). Cash only. The atmosphere is very plain.
With its ramshackle, boxy exterior, Chinatown's King Fung Garden doesn't look like a restaurant. And the Formica tables and Naugahyde trim inside don't help. But once you sit down and start eating, everything else becomes moot. Regulars phone a day in advance to order the first-rate Peking duck, served in three separate courses. Even basic soups, like hot-and-sour and wonton, are robustly flavored enough to seem novel. Scallion pancakes and pan-fried Peking ravioli are a marvel to munch: crunchy without, tender within, and not a bit too greasy. We also recommend any of the noodle dishes, be it chow mein or chow foon. A Brookline sibling stands in its shadow.
