Grill 23 and Bar Description:
A fancy steakhouse (ties recommended for the gentlemen), which also offers seafood and contemporary American cuisine, in the Back Bay.
Grill 23 ushers the classic American steakhouse into the twenty-first century. Yuppies and board chairmen hold court over huge slabs of meat. Big red wines flow like chatter on the trading floor. While we like the show, we relish the fare, too. Chef Jay Murray is no chop chump: though the steaks are the stars, the whole menu is a class act, from grilled dayboat scallops to truffled tater tots (which Murray was one of the first chefs to introduce locally) to elegant sweets like white chocolate semifreddo. Cuts of meat range from skirt steak frites to bacon-wrapped sirloin to a 24 oz. porterhouse, while salmon, pasta, meatloaf and chicken with risotto round out the entrées. A notable wine list balances showpieces with genuine finds. The upstairs private dining suite is an elegant touch. Across the board, Grill 23 delivers blue-chip consistency.

Review :
one of my very favorite restaurants in Boston since 1987,my husband and I make a point of visiting whenever we are in boston--BUT NO MORE.
In June we took 4 other friends after telling them it was the best. One of our party ordered the Bone in Delmonico-rib eye in other parts of the country-for $39.00 should be, as it used to be, 2 inches thick and fantastic. This poor steak arrived not only overcooked, but maybe 1/2 inch thick-it looked like a steak one would get in a 1960's era Howard Johnson's (no offense intended to Hojo's of the past).
I ordred swordfish, again, my experience at the Grill 23 was that the swordfish was wonderful, thick, moist, fresh-dreamy. This time, I could not believe my eyes, overcooked, dry, and no thicker than that poor Delmonico! What happened?
I give 2 stars because the room is still lovely, it's lively, but take my advice and just go for a drink, get your steak somewhere else, Capital Grill has always been good, on Newbury Street, or the Oak Room at the Fairmont Copley Place.
the Grill is going down...end of an era I guess.
