Elephant Walk Description:
Though Elephant Walk likes to bill itself as French-Cambodian, the hyphen probably should be replaced by an explanation: that this home-run hitting trio of restaurants actually offers not fusion cuisine but two wholly different menus, both more nuanced, in more upscale environs, than most expect, as well-informed waitstaff negotiate handsome interiors with slyly exotic touches. We recommend sticking to the Cambodian menu for entrées and mixing-and-matching, Khmer-style, when it comes to appetizers. Somlah chou is a tangy, mildly pungent soup of shrimp, tomatoes, garlic and French mint. Nataing is crispy pork cooked in a perky broth of coconut milk, chilies, peanuts and garlic. And the salade Cambodgienne is as refreshing as can be. The French dishes are not as uniformly successful, though the rare tuna loin accompanied by crispy pear ravioli and spicy cream sauce is rather remarkable. This location is best for business or special occasion dining.
