If it looks like Davio's, wines and dines like Davio's and charges like Davio's, it must be---Avila, Davio's Mediterranean sibling. But hey, we like Davio's for its big-city glitter and its Italian-inflected steakhouse fare, hearty and surprisingly interesting; and we're taken with Avila, as well. In the sweeping, rusty-and-dusty-hued dining room or at the large curved bar, we relish indulging in robustly flavored snacks and appetizers. Start with salt cod fritters with balsamic mayo---sauces and dips are a strong point here, and we do mean strong---or the striking ouzo-fried halloumi with dates and cashews, then move on to entrées of equal boldness such as ham-wrapped cod with white eggplant caponata, all salty tang, or fusilli gone Portuguese with sausage and vinho verde as well as shrimp. And just when you think you're stuffed to bursting, the dessert cart rolls around.
