Thai Basil Description:
This pretty Thai place on Newbury Street is a study in black, all through the long, narrow room and right down to the black tile floor. Without much cushioning, voices ping-pong around, but at least it's lively, with a mostly young crowd. Soups can be spicy, and the satays are well handled, although some of the curries could use a bit more depth. Still, the pad thai is fine, the beer's cold, and the room's cool. One nice feature is a pair of side rooms with bamboo mats that are reserved for large parties.
