Clink Description:
Serves New American cuisine in the boutique Liberty Hotel, which was once the Charles Street Jail.
The restaurant is located near the Charles/MGH stop on the MBTA Red Line.
Built in the mid-nineteenth century, the Charles Street jail is now a luxury hotel that's milking the historical irony for everything it's worth. Take the name of its signature bar and kitchen: CLINK. plays on the sounds presumably made both by the barred cell doors that still decorate (if that's the right word) the admittedly striking, sophisticated space and by the glasses now raised in toast by Beacon Hill's smart set. The menu, dominated by small plates, is as fascinating to peruse as the joint is to case---consider truffled caramel popcorn sprinkled with smoked sea salt or octopus cassoulet---but the sometimes lackluster execution suggests the need for a more seasoned kitchen crew (prison breaks---er, employee turnover---began within weeks of the hotel's opening). Still, we dig the vibe enough to stop in for a nibble now and then.
