Post 390 Description:
The two-level Post 390 is often jammed to capacity, even on weeknights. Maybe it's the view, which offers glimpses of Trinity Church and the Hancock Tower. Maybe it's the prime location, close to both the Back Bay and the South End. Maybe it's the vibe: sleek yet welcoming, with exposed brick, cozy fireplaces, and an open kitchen. It could also be the cuisine, which is hit-or-miss, usually solid if not overly imaginative. This is comfort food cooked to soothe, not surprise. So you'll find stick-to-your-ribs items like hot dogs, meatloaf, baked beans, and the like. For worker bees, meanwhile, there's a quaintly termed "hot lunch" menu featuring potpies and beer and bacon mac 'n' cheese. There's also a buzzing bar scene and a slightly spicier cocktail list to go along with it---try a Dirty Water, made with Hendrick's gin, orange bitters, lemon juice, dry sherry and brown sugar simple syrup.
