Sportello Description:
Salted away in a drab warehouse, Sportello offers a simple take on classic Italian trattoria fare. You'll find the traditional Tuscan bean soup, potato gnocchi and antipasti on the dinner menu, most for a princely sum. The entrées are perfectly acceptable but don't break any new ground. Lunch is more of an unexpected surprise, thanks in large part to the restaurant's bakery counter. Choose from savory (and sweet) pastries, plus delectable sandwiches and pastas to go. Sportello also sells a variety of olive oils, honeys and pastas for at-home gourmets. Special bonus---Sportello is just above Barbara Lynch's innovative libation salon Drink, which makes it a convenient post-nightcap hangout. After a few potent beverages, you might not mind paying $22 for your pappardelle.
