Michaels Steaks & Seafood Llc Description:
Surf 'n' turf specialties are the backbone of this longtime Hoover restaurant. From 1951 through the early '90s, Michael's Sirloin Room & Lounge was a landmark Southside restaurant with a loyal following. Among the diners then were the late University of Alabama head coach Paul "Bear" Byrant and the late comedian Bob Hope. Now Michael Matsos' son, Charles, and development partner Rusty Creel have revived many of the menu items in a suburban setting, including the legendary steer butt steak. Lunchtime finds homey offerings such as hearty meatloaf or L.A. fried catfish (that's Lower Alabama of course). Sides include black-eyed peas, Creole corn, collard greens and mac 'n' cheese. Or try a Greek chicken pita topped with feta slaw. Dinner finds the full array of steaks with a choice of toppings: Michael's Oscar-style, blue cheese, au poivre or béarnaise sauce. Among the seafood offerings are shrimp stuffed with crab meat and ahi steaks with ginger soy. Those with a sweet tooth may want to try the macadamia nut-white chocolate bread pudding. Or settle in with an Irish coffee. Sticky sweet cinnamon rolls are not to be missed.
