Alabama has been celebrating ever since the governor signed the Gourmet Beer Bill into law in 2008, and there's no better place to honor it than at The J. Clyde. The owners, brother and sister Jerry and Susan Hartley, have long supported Free the Hops in Alabama and are dedicated beer enthusiasts. During happy hour, enjoy a Bavarian roast beef sandwich with sweet potato fries or a house-made soup du jour with cornbread. The dinner menu includes starters such as seafood ravioli in a roasted red pepper cream sauce, beef carpaccio, or fried green tomatoes with house-made rémoulade. If you're still hungry, try the steak au poivre with port wine reduction and asparagus or a Bavarian sausage plate with smashed potatoes, sautéed cabbage and balsamic marinated vegetables. Late night pub menu fare includes steak and eggs, pizzas, sandwiches and burgers, including a J. Clyde burger, topped with fried green tomato. On High Gravity Mondays, the first two high gravity beers are $5 each. And there's often a cask or firkin of something new arriving, which starts the celebration again.
